MUSIC.

Where to even begin. It came into my life in layers as a kid fascinated with the sounds of things and once I got a guitar in my hands I knew it was my destiny. Music has been my life since I was 12 or 13, and has been - in many different ways - my living for most of my adult life. Following it and chasing it and being guided by it, it has brought just about everyone in my life TO my life, and brought ME to situations and opportunities I never would have crossed paths with otherwise. If I had to choose music or food, I would die listening to John Coltrane.

Early on, the formative influences of Neil Young, Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer’s Leigh Stephens, Eddie Hazel (any “Hendrix” in me comes from this guy, not Jimi - “Maggot Brain” got to me first) blew my mind with sonic colors and rhythmic textures. My first album was REO Speedwagon “Hi Infidelity.” Gary Richrath’s guitar tone on that was gargantuan. Journey’s “Escape” was the first in-the-pocket bass playing I made mental notes from. “Oh man - that’s the link between the drum beats and the notes of the song, He’s playing the low notes but WITH and around the drum hits.” Thanks Ross Valory, I owe you one. Meanwhile through Neil Young’s Comes a Time and the acoustic side of Rust Never Sleeps, my acoustic playing & sense of basic songcraft formed.
